Fantastic Tour of Kolkata for Everyone
Our guide Tirthankar was amazing and incredibly responsive to our last minute changes. He clearly takes pride in the city, the tour, and making sure that all his guests feel comfortable and interested throughout the day. Our group had a mixture of Americans and former locals, all of which had a truly fantastic time. We visited the Jain Temple, Potters Colony, College Street, Coffee House, Flower Market, and Victoria Memorial Garden. We had a seamless tour and would highly recommend this tour to anyone.

Highly recommend
As a solo female traveler I was apprehensive about touring Kolkata on my own. Mr. Mukhergee and his driver put me at ease, and picked me up from the hotel in a comfortable Ari conditioned car. I booked a half day tour but were able to visit a lot of places. Very knowledgeable guide. Highly recommend.

Babus , Zamindars and Sahibs in the City of Palaces and Joy
To complete my trinity of West Bengal I joined a private tour with Kolkata trips for a Calcutta historical and architectural tour. Little did I expect such treasures and revelations to unfold. Mukerjee was very kind to engage a local historian to add depth and color to my jaunt. And did it teach me quite a few things. Did you know, 1. Washington DC was actually a sugar plantation owned by a Bengali ? 2. Rhinoplasties were performed in India long before the West because of the punishment for theft and lying? 3. The dark past of modern banking institutions and trading companies linked to opium and ita destructive history in China and Asia? Besides a detailed coverage of several significant buildings in the Dalhousie area I discovered the original Chinatown that pre dates the Tangra district. And there are clan houses, temples that are still active places of worship as well as Calcutta’s soy sauce factory. These settlements have interesting ties to Malaysia, Singapore, Hongkong and also China. One also appreciates the complexity of the Chinese diaspora - told through persecution, war, shifting political loyalties and modern geo politics between Taiwan and China. I strongly recommend these sites for Chinese travellers. In the northern part of black town are the palaces of the landed gentry Zamindari and home of the Bengal Renaissance. Two outstanding sites are the Marble Palace belonging to the Mullicks and the fabled Tagore clan. The former family home of Rabindranath Tagore is now a museum of his works and life travels. This requires at least two hours for a detailed visit. So make the time !

Hidden Gem in Kolkata that will astound you
I went on a solo private tour with Mukerjee and a driver to Bishnupur. This is a hidden gem few tourists would have heard of. It requires a 12 hour trip as the drive will take around 4 hours from Kolkata. The roads can be uneven with speed bumps slowing the journey time plus large tracks are still being constructed. However you’ll be rewarded with a rural and quite Arcadian view of the West Bengal countryside. Hay stacks that resemble a Monet painting and some really picturesque rice fields. There will be a stopover for a local Chai and sweet snack. Followed by a drive through forested roads that are part of a nature reserve for elephants and tigers. Once you reach the town of Bishnupur you realise the colours of the houses belie an ancient kingdom dating back four hundred years. There are palace grounds with lakes as well as a fortress and many temples. The ancient banyan trees conjure a Jungle Book image with water, ruins and thick trees. The showstopper has to be two ornately decorated terra cotta temples. One marvels at the details and story board of images and figures from the Ramayana and Mahabhartha. Pause and really study the details. It’s worth the long journey ! The other temples showcase the styles from Egyptian pyramids to Mughal arches and Hindu pillars. All in volcanic stone or brick unlike the marble and granite of the other parts of India. The temple tour will conclude with a visit to the silk hand looms of Bishnupur that weave the vivid silk sarees of Baluchari. I would suggest if you have time to stay a night to take advantage of the long journey and include the other historical towns as part of a circuit Shantiniketan and Gangasagar.

probably the best guide in India
I had a wonderful experience with the guide Mukherjee in Kolkata. What really stood out was how genuine and thoughtful he was—no overselling, no pushing us into souvenir shops or tourist traps (which can be quite common), and no hidden agendas. Instead, he focused entirely on giving us a good experience. He took great care of us throughout the trip, always checking that we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. At one point, he even went out of his way to buy small gifts for us, which was completely unexpected and very kind.Everything felt easy, safe, and well looked after. I would definitely engage him again on my next trip to Kolkata—there’s still so much more to see, and I’d love to explore it with him again.

Enjoyable, informative and well looked after : a private tour of Kolkatha
Mukherjee helped tailor a rich and insightful half day tour for our group as we were here for business. For some, it being a first time in India this half day introduction covered various themes which make India such a fascinating and incredible destination. - Jainism as a religion and an exquisite jewel box of a temple - India’s heritage of higher learning with the colleges in Calcutta pre dating several of our South East Asian nations ; plus streets of book sellers that will entice any bibliophile - Flowers as decoration and worship ; a colorful exploration of Calcutta’s wholesale flower bazaar complete with garlands, streamers and arrangements - Colonial architecture making the city “London on the Hooghly” ; most impressive is the HSBC building that rivals that of Shanghai- Clay figurine makers’ street ; recognising the significance of the worship of Durga and Kali and the festivities leading up to the return of the figurines to the water- the food of India ranging from street to the curious world of Chindian dishes - a visit to the City of Joy would not be complete without remembering Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity All throughout the tour Mukherjee looked after our water and toilet needs as well as ensuring our phones had access to charging cables and supply. Very considerate and thoughtful.

Outstanding tour of Kolkata
We had such an amazing experience with Mr Mukherjee. He is hands down one of the best tour guides we have ever had. It all started from his timely communication and understanding what we wanted to do on our highlighted tour prior to booking and once we booked he even made sure that whatever we wanted to do that it is fulfilled. He never steered us to shopping or going to certain places that normal tour guides do as they have tie in with certain shopsMr Mukherjee is a true gentlemen and alway made sure we were comfortable and always opened the door for us. He went to great detail and explaining all the sites we visited. You can see the passion he has for Kolkata and the love he has with the history We love to take picture so he had so much patience with us and he took amazing pics. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kolkata. He is a true gem of a person!
