  • Eden Gardens Stadium — Look out for the legendary Eden Gardens, established in the 1860s and today one of the world’s most celebrated cricket grounds, deeply woven into Kolkata’s sporting culture.
  • General Post Office (GPO) — Rising beside B.B.D. Bagh, the grand GPO was completed in 1868 on the site traditionally associated with the original Fort William, its imposing dome reflecting colonial Kolkata’s administrative grandeur.
  • Shaheed Minar — This graceful 48-metre monument, originally built in 1828 as the Ochterlony Monument, was later renamed Shaheed Minar in memory of India’s freedom fighters.
  • Akashvani Bhawan — Passing this historic broadcasting centre, you’ll see the former home of All India Radio in Kolkata, which played an important role in bringing news, music and Bengali culture to generations of listeners.
  • Town Hall — Built in 1813 in the grand Doric style, Kolkata’s Town Hall once hosted important social and civic gatherings and remains a fine reminder of the city’s early colonial public life.
  • Writers’ Building — Once the workplace of the East India Company’s junior writers, this imposing red-brick building later became the centre of Bengal’s administration and witnessed many important chapters of Kolkata’s political history.
  • Raj Bhavan (Governor’s House) — Modelled partly on Kedleston Hall in England, this elegant 19th-century residence was built as the Government House and later became the official residence of the Governor of West Bengal.
  • Calcutta High Court — Founded in 1862, the Calcutta High Court is one of India’s oldest High Courts; its striking Gothic Revival architecture adds another historic landmark to the cityscape.
  • Maidan — Stretching across the heart of Kolkata, the vast Maidan was developed around the old Fort William and is affectionately known as the city’s “lungs,” offering a refreshing expanse of greenery amid the urban landscape.
  • Race Course — Established in the 19th century, the Royal Calcutta Turf Club’s racecourse became an important part of colonial Kolkata’s social life and remains one of the city’s historic sporting landmarks.
  • Fort William — Hidden amid the greenery of the Maidan, Fort William was built by the British in the late 18th century after the original fort was replaced, and continues to reflect Kolkata’s strategic importance during the colonial era.
  • St. Andrew’s Church — Built in 1818 for Kolkata’s Scottish community, this elegant church is distinguished by its tall steeple and offers a fascinating glimpse into the diverse European communities that shaped colonial Calcutta.

He has given us a very interesting private tour. He is the most professional guide we have ever had due to his kindness, his attentiveness, his knowledge of the city which is unbeatable, and the gifts he gave us at the end of the tour. Santiniketan and a sleepy car ride This is a lovely trip and a very long day. It worked well for me on my first day in Kolkata as I adjusted to exhaustion and the time difference. It involves a very long car ride alongside rice paddies and small towns (I saw a monkey), with lovely music, a driver and a guide. When you get to Santiniketan, there is a local guide awaiting you. You can walk the outside of the campus, see old buildings and trees and go into a museum. My guide worked hard to ensure my day was exactly what I wanted.

Kolkata Sightseeing I had the pleasure of spending a day with Mr. T. Mukherjee and Mr. Ravi Shankar in Kolkata. Was very positively surprised, when on short notice I requested a change of pickup time and place and immediately got a confirming reply. Mr. Shankar is the man for the dates and facts of all Kolkata adding a bit of local Couleur, while Mr. Mukherjee makes sure you feel good and are comfortable. The tour contained all the must-sees but was adjusted in reference to the order depending on your personal needs (early lunch, coffee break etc). There was always an Option A and Option B and I decided which one I preferred. It was a wonderful day and I can only recommend these 2. The fee is more on the higher side, but I considered it very much worth it! Book them!

Trip to Shanti niketan and city tour We had an absolutely wonderful experience with our tour guide in Kolkata. He was engaging and attentive throughout, and clearly went above and beyond to take care of us. Rather than just sticking to the typical tourist spots, he made sure we experienced the everyday rhythm of local life too — which ended up being one of the highlights of the trip. He had a wonderful way of bringing history to life, sharing the stories behind the places we visited rather than just reciting facts. We enjoyed Ravindra Sangeeta during the ride to Shanti Niketan. During the city tour, He introduced us to charming, nostalgic local cafés instead of steering us toward the usual 5-star spots, which gave us a much more authentic taste of the city. What really stood out was how thoughtful and prepared he was — he carried umbrellas for us, kept snacks in the car, and even had hand sanitizer and face-cleansing towelettes on hand. It’s the kind of attention to detail you don’t expect but deeply appreciate. On top of that, his warmth and compassion toward the local people he interacted with said a lot about his character. Highly recommend him if you’re looking for a guide who treats you like family and gives you a real feel for Kolkata, not just a checklist of sights
