Itinerary - Full Day Kolkata City Tour

Stop At: Mullick Ghat Flower Market

Begin your Kolkata journey at Mullick Ghat Flower Market, one of the city's most colourful and energetic morning scenes. Established in the nineteenth century near the Hooghly River, the market grew alongside Kolkata's religious and commercial life. Today, from the early hours of the morning, flower sellers and buyers fill the narrow lanes with marigolds, roses, lotus flowers and garlands destined for temples, homes and ceremonies. Beneath the imposing Howrah Bridge, the market offers a fascinating glimpse into Kolkata's everyday life and traditions—long before the city's streets become busy.

Stop At: Howrah Bridge

Standing above the Hooghly River, Howrah Bridge is perhaps the most recognisable symbol of Kolkata. The present bridge was opened to traffic in 1943 and is an impressive cantilever structure constructed without nuts and bolts in its main framework. Connecting Kolkata with Howrah, it became an essential artery for millions of people and remains one of the busiest bridges of its kind. As you look across the river and watch buses, cars, pedestrians and boats move around you, it is easy to understand why this remarkable piece of engineering has become inseparable from the story of Kolkata.

Stop At: Mother House

From the energy of the streets, the tour moves to a place of compassion and quiet reflection—Mother House, the headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity. Mother Teresa came to Kolkata in 1929 and later began her work among the city's poorest and most vulnerable people. In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata. Mother House became closely associated with her life and humanitarian work, and she was buried here after her death in 1997. For visitors, the experience is less about grand architecture and more about understanding the extraordinary humanitarian legacy that became part of Kolkata's modern history.

Stop At: Parashnath Jain Temple

Step into the peaceful world of Parashnath Jain Temple, one of Kolkata's most ornate religious landmarks. Built in 1867 by the Jain philanthropist Rai Badridas Bahadoor Mookim, the temple is dedicated to Parshvanatha, the 23rd Jain Tirthankara. Its beautifully decorated interiors, mirrors, coloured glass, marble work and intricate details reflect the artistic traditions of Kolkata's historic Jain community. Away from the city's busy streets, this remarkable temple offers travellers an opportunity to discover a lesser-known chapter of Kolkata's religious and architectural heritage.

Stop At: Kumartuli – The Potters & Artisans Colony

Continue into the narrow lanes of Kumartuli, where Kolkata's artistic traditions come alive in clay. The neighbourhood developed in the eighteenth century as potters settled in North Kolkata, close to the Hooghly River. As elaborate Durga Puja celebrations grew among Kolkata's wealthy families, these craftsmen gradually turned their skills from everyday pottery to creating clay images of Hindu deities. Today, generations of artisans continue this tradition, creating magnificent Durga, Kali, Lakshmi and other idols by hand. Walking through the workshops, visitors can see bamboo frames, straw structures and layers of clay gradually transformed into expressive works of art.

Stop At: College Street - Boi Para

Next, discover College Street, affectionately known as Boi Para—the "neighbourhood of books." For generations, this part of Kolkata has been at the centre of the city's educational and intellectual life. Surrounded by historic institutions such as Presidency University and the University of Calcutta, the street is famous for its countless bookshops and pavement stalls selling new, old and rare books. Here, students, professors, writers and curious travellers share the same streets. A visit to College Street reveals another side of Kolkata—a city where books, education and ideas have long been an important part of everyday life.

Stop At: Indian Coffee House

Just beside College Street, step into the legendary Indian Coffee House, a place where Kolkata's intellectual and cultural history has unfolded over cups of coffee. The building began its story as Albert Hall in 1876, before the Coffee Board established a coffee house here in 1942. It was renamed Coffee House in 1947 and became a favourite meeting place for writers, poets, artists, students and political thinkers. When the establishment faced closure in 1958, professors from Presidency College and the University of Calcutta petitioned to save it. Today, the famous adda—Kolkata's tradition of relaxed, lively conversation—continues to give this historic café its unique character.

Stop At: St. Paul's Cathedral

Conclude this part of your Kolkata sightseeing tour at the magnificent St. Paul's Cathedral, one of the city's finest examples of Gothic Revival architecture. The cathedral was commissioned to serve Kolkata's growing European community and its foundation stone was laid in 1839. It was completed and consecrated in 1847, becoming the first purpose-built Anglican cathedral in Asia. Designed by Major William Nairn Forbes with architect C. K. Robinson, the cathedral features a graceful Gothic interior, stained-glass windows and a peaceful surrounding garden. Today, it remains an important place of worship and a remarkable reminder of Kolkata's nineteenth-century colonial history.

Kolkata Sightseeing I had the pleasure of spending a day with Mr. T. Mukherjee and Mr. Ravi Shankar in Kolkata. Was very positively surprised, when on short notice I requested a change of pickup time and place and immediately got a confirming reply. Mr. Shankar is the man for the dates and facts of all Kolkata adding a bit of local Couleur, while Mr. Mukherjee makes sure you feel good and are comfortable. The tour contained all the must-sees but was adjusted in reference to the order depending on your personal needs (early lunch, coffee break etc). There was always an Option A and Option B and I decided which one I preferred. It was a wonderful day and I can only recommend these 2. The fee is more on the higher side, but I considered it very much worth it! Book them!

Trip to Shanti niketan and city tour We had an absolutely wonderful experience with our tour guide in Kolkata. He was engaging and attentive throughout, and clearly went above and beyond to take care of us. Rather than just sticking to the typical tourist spots, he made sure we experienced the everyday rhythm of local life too — which ended up being one of the highlights of the trip. He had a wonderful way of bringing history to life, sharing the stories behind the places we visited rather than just reciting facts. We enjoyed Ravindra Sangeeta during the ride to Shanti Niketan. During the city tour, He introduced us to charming, nostalgic local cafés instead of steering us toward the usual 5-star spots, which gave us a much more authentic taste of the city. What really stood out was how thoughtful and prepared he was — he carried umbrellas for us, kept snacks in the car, and even had hand sanitizer and face-cleansing towelettes on hand. It’s the kind of attention to detail you don’t expect but deeply appreciate. On top of that, his warmth and compassion toward the local people he interacted with said a lot about his character. Highly recommend him if you’re looking for a guide who treats you like family and gives you a real feel for Kolkata, not just a checklist of sights

Exceptional introduction to Kolkata This half-day tour was one of the highlights of my visit to Kolkata. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned and covered many of the city's most fascinating locations, including the vibrant flower market, the iconic Howrah Bridge, Kumartuli, College Street and Mother House. It offered the perfect balance of culture, history, local life, and authentic experiences. What truly made the tour special was the local companion, who was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing the spirit of Kolkata. Rather than feeling like a typical sightseeing tour, it felt like exploring the city with a knowledgeable local friend. The insights, stories, and recommendations added tremendous value throughout the experience. The vehicle was comfortable, the pace was relaxed, and everything was organized professionally from start to finish. This tour is ideal for travelers who have limited time but still want to experience the real essence of Kolkata. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kolkata for the first time. A wonderful and memorable experience!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Exceptional Experience – From Bishnupur to Kolkata City Tour After an incredible Bishnupur day trip with Kolkata Trips, we were so impressed with their service that we decided to book a half-day Kolkata tour as well—and it turned out to be just as Fabulous. Our journey with them began with a seamless and enriching heritage experience in Bishnupur, which set high expectations. Thankfully, their Kolkata city tour exceeded those expectations in every way. The team is extremely professional, punctual, and genuinely committed to delivering a meaningful travel experience. The Kolkata sightseeing tour was perfectly curated for a half-day schedule. Despite limited time, we were able to cover some of the most iconic Kolkata attractions comfortably. What stood out most was the presence of a knowledgeable Kolkata local guide, who added depth and context to every stop. This wasn’t just sightseeing—it felt like walking through the living history of the city. We opted for a private Kolkata tour, which gave us the flexibility to explore at our own pace. The guide was attentive and happy to tailor parts of the experience, making it feel like a truly custom Kolkata tour. Whether it was colonial landmarks, cultural spots, or hidden corners of the city, everything was explained with clarity and enthusiasm. For anyone looking for best Kolkata tours, this is a fantastic option. It works perfectly for travelers with limited time who still want a rich introduction to the city. The comfort of the vehicle, smooth coordination, and well-planned route made it one of the most efficient Kolkata tour packages we’ve experienced.
